Abstract

Abstract: This research is intended to validate the goal orientations scale to measure the progress of students with an emphasis on religious orientation. Research population is Undergraduate students in Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Participants included 315 undergraduate students from different disciplines. Midgly and et al scale of achievement goals and religious goal orientation subscales were used for gathering data. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used for analyzing data. Reliability of the overall scale and subscales mastery achievement goals, performance approach, and performance avoidance using Cronbach's alpha respectively (0/89, 0/89, 0/82, 0/79 and 0/92) was calculated as the amount was satisfactory. Purposed Factor Structure was fitted to data and explained 62/05 variance in student achievement goals and the highest variance was explained by religious orientation. The results showed that the performance-approach, performance-avoidance orientation and religious orientation are higher in female students compared to their male counterparts.
